How every part of Schollar works. Pick a topic, or read straight through.
Create an account and set up the basics.
Go to Sign up and register with your email address and a password, or choose Continue with Google. Google sign-in shares only your email address and basic profile — Schollar never gets access to your Gmail, Drive or Calendar.
Add your subjects first. Assessments and study sessions both attach to a subject, so creating them is quicker once your subjects exist. Tasks work standalone, so you can start there if you prefer.
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. You will get an email with a reset link. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder.
If you signed up with Google, you do not have a Schollar password — sign in with Google instead.
Everything you need to do, with due dates and categories.
On Tasks, choose + New Task. A task has a title, an optional description, a due date and time, and a category. The category field remembers topics you have used before, so you can reuse them without retyping.
Tasks move through Todo → In Progress → Completed. You can tick a task complete directly from its card, or change the status while editing it.
Filters combine, so you can search within a filtered view.
Archiving hides a task from your active list without deleting it. Switch the Active / Archived toggle to see archived tasks, and use Restore to bring one back.
Any task whose due date and time has passed and whose status is not Completed. Overdue tasks are highlighted in red and counted on the Analysis page.
Your modules, and the details you keep forgetting.
A name and code, a colour, class time and venue, and your lecturer's email address, office and consulting hours. The colour you pick is used to identify that subject across assessments, study sessions and the calendar.
Assessments and study sessions both belong to a subject. Without at least one subject you cannot create either — Schollar will prompt you to add one first.
Deleting a subject also deletes its assessments and study sessions. This cannot be undone, so archive the assessments instead if you only want them out of the way.
Tests, exams and anything else with a date attached.
On Assessments, choose + Add Assessment. Pick the subject, then set a classification (for example “Test 1” or “Final exam”), the scope of what it covers, the date and time, and the venue.
Use the archive button on the assessment. Archived assessments move to the Archived view, where you can Restore them or Delete forever. Archiving is reversible; deleting is not.
Yes — use the subject filter at the top of the page. The filter stays applied when you switch between Active and Archived.
No. Assessments in the past show how many days have passed rather than a negative countdown. Archive them to clear them from the list.
Plan focused study, and run a timer while you do it.
On Study, create a session against a subject. Set when it is scheduled for, how long to study, and how long your break should be. You can add a focus note describing what you plan to cover.
Yes — a session can repeat Weekly or Monthly, or not at all. Repeating sessions are created as a group.
Starting a session runs a timer that alternates study blocks with breaks, based on the durations you set. The timer keeps running while you move around the app, so you can check your notes or tasks mid-session without losing it.
It also survives a page refresh — the timer state is saved in your browser, not on our servers.
Completed sessions record when you started, when you finished, and how many minutes you actually studied. Those figures feed the totals on the Analysis page. Sessions you cancel are recorded too, so the numbers stay honest.
A folder tree and a rich text editor for your material.
Notes live in folders, which can be nested inside one another. The sidebar shows your folder tree with a document count for each. Search looks across the folder you are currently in.
Changes save as you write — there is no save button to press.
Yes. Open a document and choose Export as Word to download it as a .docx file, formatting and maths included. Word is currently the only export format.
Your notes are stored in your account, not just on your device, so they follow you between browsers and machines. That said, we recommend exporting anything important — see our Terms of Service on keeping your own backups.
Tasks, assessments and study sessions on one grid.
Three kinds of event: tasks (by due date), assessments (by date), and study sessions (by when they are scheduled). Each is colour-coded by its subject where it has one.
Yes — use the type filter to show or hide tasks, assessments and study sessions independently. There are also separate views for assessments and study.
Events saved without a specific time — such as tasks created before due times were added — display the date only. Edit the item and set a time if you want one shown.
What your tasks and study time actually add up to.
Completed tasks as a percentage of all your active tasks. Archived tasks are excluded, so archiving finished work does not distort the figure.
Make it look how you want.
Yes. Under Settings → Theme there are five themes: Blue, Purple, Emerald, Pink and Black & White.
Yes — toggle it under Settings → Appearance. Your choice is saved to your account, so it applies wherever you sign in.
What we hold, and how to get rid of it.
Settings → Delete account. This is immediate and permanent: it removes your account together with your tasks, subjects, assessments, study sessions, notes and settings. It cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep first.
Your email address, whatever you create in the app, and your IP address for rate limiting and security logging. We run no analytics and no advertising trackers. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Yes. Under POPIA you have the right to access what we hold about you. Email scholar.thimral@gmail.com and we will provide it.
Schollar can run from your home screen.
Partly. Pages you have already visited are cached so they load without a connection, but anything that needs your data — creating a task, opening a note you have not viewed — requires being online.
When something is not behaving.
Your session is kept in a cookie. If your browser is set to block cookies for this site, or clears them on close, you will be signed out each time. Allow cookies for Schollar and try again.
Schollar caches files on your device to load faster, and occasionally an old copy sticks around. A hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac) usually clears it.
Check whether it is archived rather than deleted — tasks and assessments both have an Archived view. If it is genuinely gone and you did not delete it, email us with the details and roughly when you last saw it.
Please report it to scholar.thimral@gmail.com rather than disclosing it publicly. Reporting a vulnerability responsibly is explicitly permitted under our Terms of Service.
